Job Description: Hair Stylist - Film Production
Position Overview:
The Hair Stylist is a vital member of the Film Production team, responsible for creating and executing exceptional hairstyles and hair designs for actors and actresses in film productions. This role requires a high level of creativity, attention to detail, and technical expertise in hairstyling, ensuring that the hair of the performers enhances the overall visual aesthetic and storytelling of the film.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the Director, Costume Designer, and Makeup Artist to understand the vision and requirements for each character's hair in the film.
- Analyze scripts, character descriptions, and storyboards to develop appropriate hairstyles that complement the overall film concept.
- Perform various hairstyling techniques, including cutting, coloring, curling, straightening, and setting hair, to achieve desired looks.
- Ensure continuity in hairstyles throughout the film production, maintaining accurate documentation and photographs of each character's hair design.
- Stay updated on current hairstyling trends, techniques, and products to deliver innovative and up-to-date hairstyles that align with the film's setting and time period.
- Provide guidance and recommendations to actors and actresses on hair care routines and products to maintain the integrity and health of their hair during filming.
- Collaborate with the Production team to source and acquire necessary hairstyling tools, products, wigs, and hairpieces required for the film.
- Manage and maintain an organized hair styling station, ensuring cleanliness, hygiene, and compliance with safety standards.
- Adhere to production schedules and work efficiently to meet project deadlines, adjusting priorities as needed.
- Collaborate with the Production team to manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring cost-effective hairstyling solutions without compromising quality.
- Maintain professionalism and positive relationships with cast and crew, fostering a supportive and creative working environment.
- Stay adaptable and proactive in handling unexpected challenges or changes in the film production process.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience working as a Hair Stylist in the film industry or related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in hairstyling techniques, including cutting, coloring, curling, straightening, and setting hair.
- Proficient in working with various hair types, lengths, and textures.
- Strong knowledge of different hairstyling products, tools, and equipment.
- Excellent understanding of character development and the ability to translate character descriptions into appropriate hairstyles.
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and continuity in hair designs throughout filming.
- Creative flair and the ability to stay up-to-date with current hairstyling trends and techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to effectively collaborate and build rapport with actors, actresses, and the production team.
